Tony's 10 Metre Band Report
5 December , 2007

Another dreadful week on Ten Metres except possibly if you live in Brazil - there were lots of them but not working many stations each. TG9ANF (Francisco in Guatemala) was popular.

Most popular DX.

Monday: ON4AEK, LU8YSF, VP2MLH, PU5OGE, KH6/N6GQ, OT4A, AD5VJ, PY2SRB, PU2MJU.

Tuesday: TG9ANF, XF4YW, PY2ZK, PU2KLM, CA5UBR, PY3SB, PY2RDZ, PU2MJU, PU1PRF, KE4WBO.

Wednesday: PU5OGE, PY2CX, F5OUX.

Thursday: PY2CX, KC2PCR, K2CAZ, PU2TES.

Friday: PU5OGE

Saturday: LU5DX, PY2ZY, VR2LH, EA8BMH, VP8LP, PU1PRF, VK2FAD.

Sunday: XF4YK, PU5OGE, KB1LKB, LU5DEM, YB0NFL, PY2SRB, K8RDD, K2MO, F5OUX, F8DGY, LW3EX, KC9GNK, 9W2CBL.

OK/DO1HBK, Marcus says, “I just found your homepage few days ago. I am so happy now, to have best info about 10m condx in Europe! Thank you,Tony! I have a question, what kind of 10m antennas are you using? I am now using a mag. loop, but I heard nothing last week. Maybe I should change to a dipole.”

I use a Carolina Windom, but Marcus, don’t go thinking I work or even hear the stations I report as being active. I wish I could. I’m fairly active but even though I’m retired, family commitments (and Stoke City and Cricket) often get in the way of things. Having said that I heard nothing last week or this week so far. This week end I shall be in Hong Kong so will miss the ARRL 10m contest!!

Carl, VH2LH, reports some success last weekend.
Saturday: VK4CQ 5/8, VK4JOO 3/3, VK4NDX 3/3, VK2MBK 5/8, VK2ACX 5/5, VK3YUN 5/4, VK3UO 5/7, VK4MKE 5/4, VK7HDX 3/3, VK4CQ 5/8, VK3JCS 5/5, VK2ZQ 5/6, VK3XQ 4/3, VK3HRT 5/3, VK2IZI 5/3, VK2FAD 5/7, VK3MBW 5/4, VK6LOT 5/5, VK2SD 5/7, VK2FHHS 3/3, VK2UZ 3/3, VK3JCH 4/3.

Sunday: VR10VAC 5/9, VK5FDMR 5/5, YB0NFL 3/3, 9W2CBL 5/5, VK5RD 5/5, VK7HDX 3/3, VK8GMT 3/3. Notice that several of the reports are only signal strength 3 but Q 5. This is easily possible on a quiet band.

Carl says, “Saturday mid afternoon 10m really opened up to Australia with QSOs made all across the country right down to VK7 (Tasmania). Nothing however was heard or worked from outside of VK! Sunday similar conditions with more background noise and a couple of inter Asia contacts.”
I will get to see Carl and his family on my visit to HK next week. And I have a VH2 licence to operate!

Jim, KZ4DX worked PU2KLM & LU1JEK the previous week and commented that there were “lots of” South American stations.

Michael, W5BUS, said, “Hello Tony, well if you like RTTY and other data then today in Houston, that was where you had to be, because that was all we had today. Oh well, 73 to all.”

Contests: The premier one is the ARRL 10m contest, (I will miss all of it!!) from Saturday 00:00 to Sunday 24:00. There is also the Light House Christmas Lights Contest, from 0001 hrs UTC on December 15, 2007, through 2359 hrs UTC on January 1, 2008. But only on certain narrow frequencies on 10m. Check out Light House Contest if you are interested.

Sun: Spot 977 is almost imperceptible. Comet Holmes has now spread out so far that is difficult to fit into the eyepiece of a backyard telescope.

Still no RF from our illustrious editor. I wait with baited breath for transmissions from ‘TUT Towers'.
