Tony's 10 Metre Band Report
24 December , 2007

Thanks to all the Radio Amateurs and SWLs who have contributed to these pages. Over the past 3 or 4 weeks, several have sent in reports which I have not been able to use because I have not been here to use them. Notably Carl VR2CB, Dave VK5MRD, Peter VK1XP, Michael W5BUS. Gentlemen, thank you and please do not allow this small hiatus in proceedings to prevent you from continuing to send is “Worked” and “Heard” in the New year. There have been many others whose reports have been used and to them I also send a hearty seasons greetings and keep sending them in.

This recently came from Carl, VR2CB:
“Saturday, worked VK4CQ 5/8, VK4JOO 3/3, VK4NDX 3/3, VK2MBK 5/8, VK2ACX 5/5, VK3YUN 5/4, VK3UO 5/7, VK4MKE 5/4, VK7HDX 3/3, VK4CQ 5/8, VK3JCS 5/5, VK2ZQ 5/6, VK3XQ 4/3, VK3HRT 5/3, VK2IZI 5/3, VK2FAD 5/7, VK3MBW 5/4, VK6LOT 5/5, VK2SD 5/7, VK2FHHS 3/3, VK2UZ 3/3 and VK3JCH 4/3.

Sunday, workedVR10VAC 5/9, VK5FDMR 5/5, YB0NFL 3/3, 9W2CBL 5/5, VK5RD 5/5, VK7HDX 3/3 and VK8GMT 3/3. Saturday mid afternoon 10m really opened up to Australia with QSOs made all across the country right down to VK7 (Tasmania). Nothing however was heard or worked from outside of VK! Sunday similar conditions with more background noise and a couple of inter Asia contacts.”

Big Dave said,
“Just letting you know that I have upgraded my Amateur License from VK5FDMR to VK5MRD. I am esp active on the 10m band.”
I should hope so too. From last Thursday 13th Dave worked ZL2OK Dave 28.485 5/9+15, ZL2SP Tod 28.485 5/9.

Peter, VK1XP, worked VK4CQ ZL2SP, VK6TQ and VK7KCR, and he heard VK's 2,3,4,5,6 &7 plus ZL's 1, 2, 4. He said,
“The summer band conditions have really opened-up over the last few weeks. On Tuesday evening VK3/VK7 working S57S. VK3/mobile (100w + 6' helically loaded whip) working Alex S57S 5x6 both ways. Many VK/ZL stations now active on ten with the good conditions. Most activity around 28.490Mhz in VK/ZL at the moment.”

Literally this morning Xmas Eve Carl sent in another report as follows:
Saturday worked, NH2CM 5/7’ 9W2DRL 5/8, ZL1KP 3/3, VK4CQ 5/6, ZL1ALZ 5/6, VK4JGH 4/3. Sunday worked VK3MBW 3/3, VK3XQ 3/3, heard: NH2CM 5/4.
“A frustrating weekend! Monitoring on and off nearly all day both Saturday & Sunday but almost nothing heard from my QTH even though the DX spots showed a fair number of Asian and VK QSOs taking place. Most signals seemed very localised ie one dx spot identified a 59++ signal report Taiwan to VK4 yet at the time I could not hear anything from either station (Taiwan is ‘just down the road’ from Hong Kong). My main successes being ZL Saturday & VK3 Sunday, both times QSOs made as the band was closing my end. Signals to the West of me have been virtually non existent for a number of weeks now.”

And that’s about it till the new year. Stoke are riding high, 4th in the Championship, English cricket is at a real low, although I have the greatest respect for Sri Lanka and they did play well.

And still we have no RF from ‘TUT towers. 22 floors up and can’t even wave his hand held out the window. Still it all supposes that he can get his hands on his handheld, if you get my drift.

Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year to all
(except Port Vale supporters).
