A not unexpected bumper weekend for CW enthusiasts but a dull week for everyone. Yes there was some DX about but not a lot. The CQ WW DX contest certainly over came the lack of sunspots. 3X5A easily aced it with LU1HF in hot pursuit and HC8N good all week.

Sunday's map

Dave the intrepid continues to battle work, family and Ten Metres, not at the same time I might add.

Thursday 27/11/2008. Stations heard were:- VK4RTL/b. Only one station worked today and that was VK4FIL.

Been quite busy here over the last few days, so not much time spent in front of the radio. Here is my 10m band report for Sunday 30/11/2008.Stations heard were:- VK2RSY/b, VK4RTL/b, VK8VF/b, ZL3TEN/b, JA2IGY/b, JA5GXX and JA6WIF. Stations worked were:- VK2MWG, VK2AFB, VK2FAD, VK2ZMT, VK2BXE, VK2NA, VK2TS, VK8GMT/2, VK4CQ, VK4ALH, JJ6VAR, JH1OCC, JA2BCE and JA3JOT. Also worked on FM 29.620MHz were VK2ZMT, VK2ZT, VK2FAD and VK2BXE. Also when working VK2FAD on SSB we did some power tests from 100 watts down to under 1 watt and the signals were quite good – up to S5. Also worked VK2AZZ, VK2JKB and VK4CQ on the VK5RSC 10m repeater 29.620MHz. As I shut my station down for the night the band is still open with both the VK2 and VK4 beacons hammering away in the background.

Monday 01/12/2008. Stations heard were:- VK4RTL/b, VK4RKC 10m repeater, VK6RWA/b and VK6RBP. Stations worked were:- All VK stations. VK5UK/2, VK2FORX, VK4ATH, VK4LMB, VK4LS, VK4FFAO, VK6RZ and VK6RO. VK2FORX also worked on 29.620MHz FM repeater.

Tuesday 02/12/2008. Stations heard were:- VK4RTL/b and the VK4RKC 10m repeater. Stations worked were:- All VK stations. VK1XP, VK2FHQQ, VK2MHB, VK2XZ, VK2VFV, VK2OD, VK2UZ, VK2PBC, VK2FADK and VK7BBB. Also worked via the 29.620MHz FM repeater were VK7BBB, VK2JKB and VK2MBD.

Wednesday 03/12/2008. Stations heard were:- VK1XP, VK2SD, VK4FNQ, VK4FIL and VK4RTL/b. I could also hear a faint VK3 on scatter but could not pull his call sign out of the QRN. Stations worked were:- Again all VK stations. VK5UK/2, VK4WT, VK4EV, VK4ARW and VK4FABA.  Later on I worked VK2NA, VK2FLNP, ZL2ADR and ZL2APF.”

That is dedication for you, mind at least Dave can hear stuff, I can’t!

Warren, callsign W4WR, reports as working HC8N Friday at 21:00 on CW. His only comment, “LOUD”. Lucky for some.

And at last we get some news of VR2CB, Carl. Sounds like bureaucracy is tying him up.
“Not yet licensed at my new QTH here in the Mid East - I applied for the test, waited 3 months and received info on the test date a week after it was actually held... I will apply again in early 2009 as tests are only every 6 months or so. On a positive note I expect to be QRV as VR2CB for three weeks in December and will hopefully give a few points away in the ARRL 10m contest.”

Good to hear from you Carl. And of course your youngest is just about 13/14 months old. I know that because my grandson, also in VR2 land, was born a couple of weeks before Carl’s youngest. How is the family, all well I hope. We have another grandchild on the way in March! So more trips to VR2 are on the cards.

Sally J. Smith, Space weather

Contests: Nothing much this weekend to stir the spirits, just need to get your breath or keying fist back after the CQWW ready in time for the ARRL 10m contest the following weekend. More later.

Sun: Blank again. But people have been doing arty stuff with pics of the triple conjunction of Venus, Jupiter and the Moon.

Stoke give a point to Hull when the Potters should have easily had all three. And then we lose to Derby on a 94th minute penalty in the Carling cup. Only consolation is that Arsenal lost to Burnley as well. Ha!
