Tony's 10 Metre Band Report
15 January, 2009

What a topsy turvy week. Nix on the weekdays and a bonanza on Saturday and Sunday. E44M (Palestine) was the hands down winner but went QRT on the evening of the 10 th, Saturday, leaving TS7C (Tunisia) runaway winner on Sunday.

Again a fair number of stations on but just working E44M and then going off air or to other bands. I heard a couple of Italian stations and I think a Danish station but the QSB was severe and I couldn’t raise any of them. My shack is due a re-design to reduce noise from the computer systems. TV noise is also a problem during the day now the wife has retired!

Carlos, PY2XC has sent in the following, (first for a long time)
“Hi Tony. Propagation appears to be improving a little bit. During the ARRL 10 metres contest I’ve worked the following European stations (in CW) with great signals: (excerpt of my cabrillo log):

QSO: 28000 CW 2008-12-13 1656 PY2XC 599 11 EA3NT 599 041 QSO: 28000 CW 2008-12-13 1658 PY2XC 599 12 EA8MQ 599 004 QSO: 28000 CW 2008-12-13 1659 PY2XC 599 13 IQ2CJ 599 080 QSO: 28000 CW 2008-12-13 1731 PY2XC 599 14 CT3FQ 599 025 QSO: 28000 CW 2008-12-13 1733 PY2XC 599 15 GW3SQX 599 061 QSO: 28000 CW 2008-12-13 1735 PY2XC 599 16 IK2HKT 599 016 QSO: 28000 CW 2008-12-13 1738 PY2XC 599 17 DL4CF 599 20

I am almost every weekend pointing Europe from 16:00 UTC on 28022.0 (CW). Maybe someone would like to set up an schedule.”

Anyone wishing to set up a sked with Carlos can contact me through this website in the usual way and I will pass your email address to Carlos. Just put Sked PY2XC in the “The callsigns you have worked” box, and don’t forget your email. That way it cuts out lots of spam for Carlos which he might get if I put his email address in this article.

TS7C will be on up to 19 th January. This huge Dxpedition has 24 operators on Kerkennah Island and will have 7 stations going 24/7.

XU7XXX (Cambodia) will be active until March and will then travel to Laos and Vietnam.

Contests: Saturday 12:00 - Sunday 11:59, Hungarian DX Contest. Saturday 12:00 - Sunday 12:00 UK DX RTTY Contest. Saturday 18:00 - Sunday 06:00 North American QSO Party (SSB) and one or two other minor contests/sprints.

Sun: The sun is blank yet again, however a solar wind stream is heading toward Earth, due to arrive on Jan. 17th or 18th. High-latitude sky watchers should be alert for auroras.

Well Stoke managed a creditable draw against Liverpool last Saturday. This Saturday we play Chelsea at Chelsea. I have a ticket. I expect the worst but Chelsea are not on top form at the moment, you never know.

Applications for Ashes tickets will soon be permitted, I will be there ready and waiting.
