Tony's 10 Metre Band Report
10 July , 2008

This week owing to a technical hitch I have a paucity of information from Thursday through to Sunday. On the surface of it JX9JKA was doing well as was 4O3A but we may never catch up with Friday and Saturday.

Good to see GB100STH up there on Monday. This is a special callsign from 16 June 2008 through 13 July 2008 commemorating the centenary of Stockport Town Hall. Opened by King George V and Queen Mary on 7th July 1908 this grade II listed building boasts a unique marble staircase and Wurlitzer organ.

Most popular DX.

Saturday:

Sunday: N4PN, SI9AM, KD7WPJ, NQ4I, 4L4WW, AN5KB, EA5/DL5EO, 7X4AN, CT1BXX, EA5DY/MM.

Dave, 2E0BHQ, worked: DO1KRT 5/9 28.4850MHz 16.06UTC, EA4ZK 5/9 28.4588MHz 16.41UTC, EA1GIB 5/8 28.4980MHz 16.54UTC, EC1AEU 5/8 28.4800MHz 21.43UTC

He says, “It was second time I worked DO1KRT.” Careful Dave, you could be setting up a Ten Metre Sked!

Rudy, PD5SS, Tuesday worked: YV5EAH 5/9 & heard: OY9R 5/9 JX9JKA 5/5. Wednesday heard: JX9JKA 5/5. Saturday worked: OY1JD 5/9+10 TF4M 5/9+10 heard: OY9R 5/9+10. Sunday worked: PA3GGB 5/5 BS, PA3FAO 5/6 BS, GB2FG 5/9+10, HB9CVQ 5/7 BS. He comments, “ Worked Back Scatter contacts with ant. heading 270 degrees.”

Lee, M0HOK, revels in BPSK31. In his own words, “Hi Tony , I have worked the following but all on BPSK31 my favourite mode (and 1 on AMTOR). Even when the bands are dead you can almost always work someone on BPSK31. Worked DO1SL in AMTOR mode 59 both ways with some qsb. OK2ZDL , JAN on BPSK31 mode 59 both ways. F5RRS, Damien on BPSK31 59 both ways. Then on 2nd July I worked DL3NTC , Harry on BPSK31 5/7 5/9. HB3YGL Thomas on BPSK31 mostly 59 both ways with some qsb. YL3GBF, Janis on BPSK31 59 both ways. EA1OD, Car on BPSK31 we both used just 5 Watts qrp 59 both ways. I find that even when the band appears to be dead that if I put a few calls out it soon comes alive ! I think people just assume it's dead sometimes. Cheers then and good dx all !”

Lee’s comment about a “Dead Band” is very true. I wonder if Lee would like to do a short piece on exactly what BPSK is and his gear that he uses on 10m?

And a muy buenos días a Rafael, XE2RV. On Sunday he worked: KE4TWC 5/7 and heard several stations with 5/9 signals at 02:00z July 7. Saludos, Rafael and do keep reporting on conditions in Mexico.

And once again last in the pile, Steve GW8XZJ, says, “Saturday worked: DL7RML 5/7, SI9AM 5/7, AN5KB 5/8, SP3GEM 5/8, F6HIQ 5/6, LY2AE 5/9, AO7ZY 5/8, F6IRG 5/6, IK4ZGQ 5/8.
I only had 2 hours to spare on Saturday afternoon, but conditions were not too bad. I operated /p from my favourite spot only 1km from the home QTH - weather awful, rain and wind !”

Still Steve, if that’s what you enjoy then more power to your PA.

Contests: Just the IARU HF World Championship from Saturday 12:00 to Sunday 12:00 and nowt else (unless the Italians spring another contest on us).

And then to Voting for the inclusion of CW contacts in my reports. The Editor (He who shall be obeyed) has put together a little voting thingy so you can easily vote, so do! The Ed’ himself has voted and voted for CW, which is a bit of a cheek seeing as how he’s never on the air, much less on CW!
