VK5MRD, our very own Dave, is back, slightly.
“Here is my 10m band report for Wednesday 01/07/2009. Stations heard were:- JA2IGY/b, ZL3TEN/b, ZL2MHF/b, VK2RSY/b, VK4RTL/b, VK6RBP/b, VK6RWA/b and VK8VF/b. There was a beacon however on 28.267MHz which I have not heard before. It was not very strong but it did hang around for a few hours before it faded away. Stations worked were:- Zero, Zip, Zilch :o( I have not had much time at all near the radio. Spare time now consists of catching up on lost sleep Hi Hi.”
Conditions into Europe and N America have looked pretty good at times but not into VK (or the UK!)
Graham, G1KOH says,
“Tony my antenna is rubbish could you send me a drawing of a good one please?”
Ah, well. How long is a piece of string? You don’t say what your current antenna is or why you think it’s rubbish. Nor do you say what sort of antenna you want or have space for, or will pay for, or can construct etc etc. More info needed before a reply can be considered.
Giuseppe, IS0MKX, on Sardinia IS heard IS0ZOD on Sunday. Not too much difficulty there if you look at the kit these two guys are running.
IS0MKX has “IC 775 DSP, - Mic SM 20, vert key Kenpro KK 50, - IC R 71 E, - IC R 7000 E, - IC ICOM 821H E, ALL MODE VHF - UHF, - IC 2725 E, - IC W32 E, - MAGNUM MT 3000, - POWER SUPPLY CEP 14 H50V. Thanks to ISØMMM (MARCO), for installation the following antennas: 2 ele Quad 10-15 mt home made by ISØYTG (LUCA), - the vertical HF multiband, - VHF/UHF DIAMOND X 510 N, - Diskone Full Band ICOM AH 7000, - Dipole PKW full size for 20 meter band, - Dipole home made full size for 40 meter band, - Dipole home made full size for 17 meter band, - Dipole home made full size for 15 meter band - Dipole home made full size for 12 meter band.” IS0ZOD has “Kenwood TS-2000 with Heil Sound HC-4, Ameritron Amplifier AL-811H (800 W max output), 8 El. Yagi Force12 C-4SXL 10/15/20/40 23 Mt. up the ground. Homemade Morgain (inverted V) 40/80 Mt.”
Ouch, that is a lot of good kit. Come on guys tell us what 10m DX you’re working.
From Paul K6FRC, comes the following announcement
“K6FRC/B and K6FRC/B2 will be swapping frequencies this week. Also, once K6FRC/B2 is on its new frequency (28.250MHz), it will pause 4 seconds between IDs to allow other beacons on the same freq. to be heard.”
Thanks for that Paul.
Last, but not least Carl, VR2CB worked 9W6MAN 3/3 and VK6TQ 5/2 on Sunday.
“Over the last week lots of JA stations were heard via Sporadic E, mainly working inter Japan. A few Chinese and Malaysians also heard. The only VK station I have heard or worked recently was VK6TQ on Sunday. Even 20m here has been poor the last few days but I see we now have a sun spot or two!”
Indeed we do (see below).

Sun: Well, as Carl VK2CB noted above, this week we’ve had some Sun Spots. Spot 1024 is experiencing some decay and solar flare activity is subsiding but it is still there.
Son James and his girl Michelle are due over from Sydney next Wednesday just in time for the start of the Ashes test at Lord’s.
I have two tickets!! The youngest daughter is off to Valencia and so it’s a busy time for us at the moment.
