Tony's 10 Metre Band Report
04 June, 2009

We live in unusual times. A great start to the week, then a dip and a belter of a weekend for the WPX contest.

Despite 10m being open N - S in the USA and to Europe with some South African traffic there was little to the UK or to VK. Good job the weather here is hot at the moment as there is little radio, even less soccer and the cricket doesn’t start till next Friday.

Andy, G6OHM (nice call) wanted a list of 10m repeaters in the Netherlands. I used DL6XB but he lists only 1 and the info is sparse. “29.670 29.570 PI____ NETHERLANDS Leeuwarden No Planning in Locator:JO23UE. Responsible:VERON” which is not really helpful. Sorry.

On Tuesday, Adam, callsign K1OCD, heard: W6PC/4 at 459 sigs RI. Which is more than I heard!

Same day, Tuesday, Pavel, CO7WT says, “Band is dead in any mode only noise at 14:00z on 02/06/09 at FL11BJ”. Same here but I’m not sure exactly what the FL11BJ bit is. Anyone know?

Carl VR2CB is returning to Hong Kong in a few weeks time so we can expect more activity from there.

Sun: New-cycle sunspot 1019 is breaking apart and beginning to fade away.

An international panel of experts has issued a new prediction for the solar cycle which takes into account the surprisingly deep solar minimum of 2008-2009. The experts led by NOAA and sponsored by NASA say Solar Cycle 24 will peak in May 2013 with a below-average number of sunspots.

"If our prediction is correct, Solar Cycle 24 will have a peak sunspot number of 90, the lowest of any cycle since 1928 when Solar Cycle 16 peaked at 78," says panel chairman Doug Biesecker of the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Centre.
