Tony's 10 Metre Band Report
12 March, 2008

No overall leader this week. 5J0E (The Texas DX Society from San Andreas, Columbia) showed well on Monday, 5U5U (Niger) on Thursday and ZD7X (St. Helena) on Saturday and Sunday. Tom has one of the minimalist QSL cards I can remember.

V51LK (Namibia) just pips Tom on Sunday, but just look at this location.

If you check for Gs (and other Brit varieties) you’ll possibly give up before you find any. G3SED and GW4AYJ snuck in there on Sunday.

Me? I heard nothing all week! In fact it’s a while since I’ve had my call in the lists.

Mike, KE5GBC (Texas), is having about as much action as me. He says,
“Still dead here. Wonder if you ever worked my friend Terry G0UNK? He is in northwest England. We normally QSO on IRLP/Echolink.”
No, Mike I’ve not worked him. Our IRLP link here is not used a great deal. Mike reported Sunday as quiet too.

Dave as usual manages to work something.
“Here is today (Saturday's) tally so far. Heard:- JA2CHS, JA1KNY, BL7IN, BG7NWF, 9M2IDJ, 9M6XRO and KH6WO (beacon). VK4CQ was heard on Back Scatter too. Worked:- JA5CTW, JG3MBL, there was another JA5 but I could not get his call correct. Lets hope tomorrow's tally is better and I will be listening for TX5C as well like most of the DX community.”

“Sunday. After mostly listening to QRN for most of the day 10m finally came to life. I wish I had more time to sit in front of the radio but it was 40 degrees ºC today and it was not far from that in my radio shack - Just too HOT!

Worked:- VK8NSB, JA1VGV, JA2DLM, JA2BMW, JO3DDD, JA1NVF, JA1GLE and BU2AQ. A "RA9" was also calling for me but I just could not pull him out unfortunately.

Heard:-BG7NWF, EC8ADS, SV1EMX, IZ8EPT and US5IML. There is always tomorrow Hi Hi!!”

Thanks for that Dave and let us know about DST in the more southern States in Oz.

Contests: CLARA (Canadian Ladies Amateur Radio Association) 2 nd day Saturday 17:00 UTC to 17:00 Sunday. Also the 10-10 International Mobile QSO Party from Saturday 00:00 to Sunday 24:00. It may be useful to know that USA and Canada changed to daylight saving last Sunday 9 th March. Europe (at least the UK) don’t change until Sunday 30 th. Not too sure about VK, no doubt Dave will let me know.

Sun: Guess what, blank again with spot 985 already gone.

Stoke City stop the rot and draw against Burnley. England throw away a possible win in the cricket Test Match against New Zealand with very poor, boring batting, not to take anything away from NZ’s battling attitude and bowling. Equally poor in the Rugby. Maybe England should take up International Ironing. (I believe the Germans are champions!)
