Tony's 10 Metre Band Report

Sunday's map

My report of the 19th February showed VK9NS on air Tuesday and Wednesday. This was regrettable since Jim died on Tuesday 10th Feb. However, it was not the work of a pirate, three stations were on air reporting Jim’s death. My apologies for any distress caused and thanks to Scott, VK4CZ for pointing that out.

Dave (a different one from our usual one) M5ADX has informed me that, “There is a ten meter home counties net on Saturday nights 21:00 28.500 usb.” Good to know and I might even try to join that one but Sunday night would have been better for me. Dave also worked G1UAI 5/1 and G4NHO 3/0, I guess on that same net? There is a website (compulsory nowadays), 10meter net

Graham, WE5I, seemed overjoyed to be on 10m and in the ARRL contest. He says,
“Worked, OA4SS 59, PJ2T 59, P40A 59, PJ4G 59, TI8M 59, YN2NB 59, PT3T 59, HP1WW 59, LR2F 59, LU1HF 59, LT1F 59 and PU5OGE 59 in the ARRL International DX SSB contest. 10 Meters opened up very strong on Sunday and contest stations in the Caribbean, Central America and South America could be heard working U.S. stations coast to coast. HP1WW is my first 10 Meters QSO with Panama. OA4SS is my first all-time QSO with Peru!”

Excellent stuff. The maps above confirm exactly what Graham said.

The first fragments of shattered satellite Cosmos 2251 are about to re-enter Earth's atmosphere. According to US Strategic Command, fragment 1993-036PX will re-enter on March 12th, followed by 1993-036KW on March 28th and 1993-036MC on March 30th. These are probably centimetre-sized pieces that will disintegrate in the atmosphere, posing no threat to people on the ground. (Spaceweather.com)

Stoke have leapt up the table after a good win against Bolton and a “back from the dead” draw against Aston Villa. Everton away this weekend, no easy task there.

But the most important news is that we have our first grand daughter, named Carmen Rosa. My wife is out in Hong Kong helping look after Victor our grand son. Mother and child both doing well. Here is a link to a short video of Victor and Carmen Victor and Carmen.

Our youngest daughter just got a head of department job in Valencia so all our kids will now be non-UK based. I guess the airline companies will make loads of money from us.
