Tim, 2E0SDE, sends in a request as follows.
“9M6XRO heard 2/2 in the noise but there! I am 9M6XRO John's QSL Manager, and while sitting here working on the day's incoming cards I saw on the cluster that he was working JA on 28.498. Although I was not able to hear the words I could clearly detect his voice. I beamed to JA but no signals from JA only the 9M6 signal. John emailed me explaining that he was beaming to UA9 area to avoid QRM from the Philippines. Did anyone else hear John on 10m??? Sadly John gets a lot of QRN locally and struggles to work weak stations.”
If any one did here John 9M6XRO on Tuesday 6th May do let me know and I’ll pass it on to Tim.
Mike, KE5GBC echos it for me, “Quiet here since last report.”
Big Dave says most apologetically,
“Well, yes I am still sick with a cold that just won’t go away! Not much for me on 10m only heard the KH6 Bcn once. I have had a few Q`s on 20m into California and VE7 land but that`s another story!” Ah shame on you venturing into 20m. Did you not get anything last Friday? (No, nor me)
Our other Dave, 2E0BHQ, worked: EA7ZY 5/7 SQ2SAT 5/9 28.4850MHz 14.50 UTC SQ9JYK 5/7 28.4800MHz 15.40 UTC and heard: EA2IF 5/9 28.4877MHz last Sunday. But he did send in the same report a few times so I must check out the response page to see if it feeds back ok. He said,
“The EA7ZY station I forgot to write down the frequency, I have ordered a log book. (potentially useful but not actually required now I believe.) Some good conditions today, there were a few other weaker stations heard that I did not log.”
Contests: Just the King of Spain CW contest Saturday 12:00 to Sunday 12:00, it may generate some spin off activity into the voice section of 10m. There are one or two other mini sprints etc.
Sun: No sunspots but Mexico had a fire ball. On May 12th, a brilliant green fireball (probably meteoritic) flew over eastern New Mexico and lit up the ground like a full Moon. Using a Sandia Labs all-sky camera and a 60-80 MHz radio receiver, Thomas Ashcraft not only photographed the fireball but also recorded distant radio stations echoing eerily from the fireball's ionized tail.
Monday’s solar "fire fountain" has subsided and the source has revealed itself. "It's a crackling, energetic region on the sun's surface," reports Pete Lawrence, from Selsey, UK.
The core of the region has not coalesced into an actual sunspot, but it is nevertheless lively and interesting to watch: "A few bright flares have been occurring this morning," says Lawrence. (Space Weather)
NASA's Phoenix Lander is approaching Mars and preparing to touch down on May 25th. If successful, the landing will kick off an unprecedented 3-month investigation of the Red Planet's arctic realm.
Cricket: I have a ticket for the first day of the England v New Zealand at Lord’s. But the forecast is for rain and thunderstorms. Oh woe is me and thrice woe.
And as a parting shot, our illustrious (makes him sound as though his underpants light up in the dark, maybe they do, I wouldn’t know) editor, G4TUT’s, team Sarfend You Nited (Southend United) are in the playoffs to get into Division 1. Does he care? Nah. (but secretly he does).
