Tony's 10 Metre Band Report
6 November, 2008

An interesting and unusual week in several ways. VP8LP, PZ5Z, 5U5U, H7/AJ9C and Z29KM were all to the fore, but the week was notable for the return of VU on Ten Metres with VUs 4RG, 7NRO, 7SJ and 4MY all active.

Lots of other DX VK6TEN being a nice call. LY70LRMD is a Lithuanian station celebrating 70 years of Radio, TO5DX is Saint Barthelemy and A43DLH is the Lufthansa Club in Oman. There are lots more, just look.

Paul, K6FRC is in the same work difficulties as Dave MRD.
“Good to see people getting some 10m propagation! In California, I have been swamped at work and had little time to monitor the band. Did get a few peeps from PY3PSI/B during the week is about all. From your October 30th report, looks like the flamethrower K6FRC/B made its way out of the West coast dead zone to some faraway places though! There is just no substitute for horsepower.”

Dave, VK5MRD has been prolific in his reporting,
Thursday “I thought the band would open right up into EU tonight after watching the clusters however it was not to be. VK`s 4 and 6 had the best of the opening right across EU. Nothingheard at all from EU from my QTH in VK5. I was able to work a few local VK2 stations.
Stations heard were:- VK2RSY, VK4RTL and VK8VF
Stations worked were:- VK2ZMT, VK2DAG, VK7AB
Friday, “Stations heard were:- JA2IGY/b. VK2RSY/b, VK4RTL/b, VK6RWA/b, VK8VF.
In fact the Sydney beacon at a distance of 1152km away was in all day and at times it was 5/9+20dB but I was only able to work one station in VK2. I guess everyone was at work? Stations worked were:- VK2ZQ, VK4JGH, VK4KMA, VK4FAXA”.

Saturday Stations heard were:- JA2IGY/b, VK2RSY/b, VK4RTL/b, 9W2RZL and BU2AQ. No stations worked today :o(

Sunday “Stations heard were:- JA2IGY/b, VK2RSY/b, VK4RTL/b, VK8VF/b, KH6AP/b, VR2B/b, 9W2LLK, BG7NWF, JA4GXX and RN9S
No stations worked today :o( - at this stage!”

Monday “Heard were:- JA2IGY/b, VK2RSY/b, VK4RTL/b, VK8VF/b and KH6AP/b. No stations worked today :o( again”.

Tuesday, “Stations heard were:- JA2IGY/b, VK2RSY/b, VK4RTL/b, VK6RWA/b, VK8VF/b and VR2B/b. I have been busy today and have not worked any stations on 10m, I wish there were more phone traffic on 10m esp when the band is open.  I did however manage to work into Georgia USA and VK4 on 20m.”

He does keep sneaking these other band contacts in, does Dave. 20m indeed!

Rudy, PD5SS worked A43DLH 5/9 on Saturday. Well if you can work only 1 station it might as well be DX!!

Last but not least Mitchel, ZU6M in South Africa says he worked SV1JGX, 9H5OU, S57S and IW3HKU on Sunday although his email is dated Saturday. He then worked I6DVW, IW1PNJ, IS0AWZ, IW0BYL, IS0BKS, IZ0IWC, IK0GHB, IS0BOZ, IZ2JCD, I0JX, IT9ABY, IZ5NFD and IS0KEB also on Sunday. Seems Mitchel has a pipe line into Italy and this with a Kenwood TS2000X and TH5DX 20W.

Contests: This weekend we have the Japan International DX Contest Saturday 07:00 to Sunday 13:00, the OK/OM DX Contest 12:00 Saturday to 12:00 Sunday, the WE (Western Electric (Bell)) Contest Saturday 19:00 to Monday 05:00 and a short SL contest.

Sun: New cycle sunspot 1007 is crackling away with class B solar flares. Elsewhere Mars lander has almost had it’s time as the sun fades on Mars.

Elsewhere nearer to home Stoke beat Arsenal 2 – 1 and we were excellent value. Arsenal were pretty point to point passing that was pointless and got nowhere. Stoke flustered them, harassed them, out played and out foxed them. Rory Delap for King.
