After two weeks away in Hong Kong with no HF rig I come back to a typical 10m scenario, rubbish during the week but a blitz at the weekend.
There was a large amount of contest/sprint activity on Saturday and Sunday but undoubtedly conditions were up. Top station for the whole weekend VK9DWX (Willis Island) was narrowly piped on Sunday by FM1FV (Martinique).

Contests: Autumn being the contest season there are again, this coming weekend, quite a lot of short (typically 2 hours) sprint contests mainly US based. There is also The WAG (German) contest 15:00 Saturday to 15:0 Sunday. We are all really waiting for the following weekend with the CQ WW DX SSB contest!

Antenna site in Hong Kong |
Sun: Although sunspot 1005 is dieing away Doug Biesecker of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Space Weather Prediction Center in Boulder, Colorado, US is confident that "At the moment, March 2008 shows the smallest number [of sunspots] for this phase of the cycle and is a very likely candidate for solar minimum,". Well we’ll see! Experts are split on whether to expect a bumper crop of sunspots or an exceptionally small yield.
On my travels to Hong Kong and other places I always look out for suitable photographic opportunities. Here are a couple.
Typical city serving antennas from a point called (would you believe it) The Peak.
The grandson (harmonic2) with his first radio in his hand, my VX2E.
He loved it, pressed his first buttons and twiddled his first knob.
