Tony's 10 Metre Band Report
30 October, 2008

Wow, quite phenomenal week culminating in the CQ WW contest. I did well, (not), I worked absolutely everything I heard, all three stations!! And one of those was about 3km away.

It seems that there is a great black hole above the UK sucking all the RF out so none of us here can get any. Once again VK9DWX, 9L1X, 6W/DL4JS and TO5Dx were well up there for most of the week. DWX seemed to go elsewhere for the contest but ZS9X, HC8A and E77A took over.

Sunday's map showing the contact paths

Tuesday, Rudy, PD9SS, heard VK9DWS, Wednesday he worked: C57R 5/3, 6W/DL4JS 5/5, 6W1RY 5/9 and he heard: 5U5U 5/7.

Don, W7DTG, heard K6FRC/B on Wednesday. Don remarks,
“Seem to be getting some greyline type propagation on 10M up in NW Washington state last couple of days. Start hearing California just a bit before daylight (12:54UTC) and goes until 15:00 UTC.”

Mitchel, ZU6M, worked a string of Europeans, IZ8DVD, IT9GSF, IK0RWX, IT9AJP, IT9BOR, IZ8NVV, IK8OXQ, EC8AFM, IW0HBY, IQ8OM, ,LZ9W,E77A,JR48RT,LZ1NJ and JO2AOB. Thanks Mitchel keep letting us know what you’re working or hearing on 10m. Not too many South African stations report in so you are our guy in SA.

Mean while our OZ correspondent, Dave VK5MRD, has sent in reports nearly every day and considering he’s on shift work I wonder how he finds the energy and wake time to turn the rig on.

“Friday: No stations worked on 10m for me but I did hear some beacons and one station from "OK" Czech Republic but he was way to weak to get his call sign let alone work. Stations heard were:- KH6AP/B, VK4RTL/B, VK8VF/B, ZL2MHF/B.

Sunday 26/10/2008. I know I missed most of the 10m opening as I was asleep as I work night shift but once I woke up I was able to work a few stations. Stations heard were:- ZL2MHF/b, KH6AP/b, JA2IGY/b, RR9O/b, VK8VF/b, VK4RTL/b, VK2RSY/b,

T8IC, VR2C, 9M8Z, LZ9W. Stations worked were:- T88AC, 9V1YC, 7N2UQC, JA3YBK, JA1HNW, JP1KHY, JA7OWD, JA7COI, JR5VHU, JA7DXX, JA1YSW, JA0CRI, JE1GWO, JA1MYW, JA1WWE, JE3BDP, JA1KNY, JH0TIS. Also managed a few on 15m into eastern and western EU.

Monday 27/10/2008. Stations heard were:- VR2B/b, JA2IGY/b, VK4RTL/b, VK8VF/b and 9W6SUE

Tuesday 28/10/2008. Stations heard were:- VK2RSY/b, VK4RTL/b, VK8VF/b and VK3TPR via scatter some 670km away. Stations worked were:- VK4FNQ an 1824KM "E" opening

Wednesday 29/10/2008. BTW, If you don’t know - I work Night Shift and it is now 12pm and I should have been in bed ages ago ready for work tonight. Unfortunately when the band is open I like most I guess find it hard to turn the radio off LOL. I had my first VK6 opening for such a long time today. Relatively short too at 1683KM. Stations heard were:- VK2RSY/b, VK4RTL/b, VK6RWA/b, VK8VF/b, JA2IGY/b, VK3TPR and

VK7XX on scatter. Stations worked were:- VK4JGH and VK6HDM in Kalgoorlie. Lets see what is out there tonight when I wake up before I go off to work LOL.

Here is the second edition of my 10m band report for Wednesday 29/10/2008. I have just woken up had some dinner and worked a little DX on 10m - great. Now it is off to work :o(. Stations Heard were:- VK4CQ Stations worked were:- BD4QH, 9W6SUE, RU3EG, VK2ZMT, VK2ABK and VK4FBRM. I am very happy with the RU3 opening. Finally I was near the radio at the right time!”

Brilliant Dave, I just wish I could get some propagation here.

Contests: Everything will be an anti-climax after last weekend. But anyway here they are. The Ukrainian DX contest 12:00 Saturday to 12:00 Sunday. The IPA contest various time CW and SSB, The High Speed Club CW contest and one or two other digi/cw contests.

Sun: No spots sunny or other wise.

We’ve had snow, in October. Not exactly unknown before but unusual. And pretty cold with it too. We still have snow and ice lying in the garden.

A trip up to Stoke took 4¾ hours to get there but at least we beat Sunderland and are off the bottom of the table. Arsenal this weekend, a different kettle of fish.
