Tony's 10 Metre Band Report
11 September, 2008

A very poor week. Even the weekend with Field Day and the All Asian contests was slow.

You will notice an almost complete lack of /P calls over Saturday and Sunday. One or two interesting DX calls though (beside ZD8LP), T88DB (Republic of Palau), 5U5U (Niger),HR1/K2L and HR1/K2LCT (Honduras), AH0BT (Saipan, Aquarius Beach Tower Contest Club), SX8WT (Alonissos Island, Greece), WH2DX (Guam), DS5DYM (South Korea), 9M6BRC (Borneo), OA4AI (Peru), DV1JM (Philippines) to name but a few.

To be quite honest the list does not really reflect the number of stations on, especially on Sunday.

Many, many stations came on and worked one or two DX contacts, then went off-air, conditions were not good, or were better on other bands.

From Dave VK5MRD, comes,
“Being Fathers Day today I missed most of the 10m opening as I spent most of the day visiting my Father who is currently in Hospital. I saw on the various loggers and clusters that there were a few openings around with some VK stations working some good DX.  I was able to hear a few beacons. Those heard were:- JA2IGY, VK8VF, VK2RSY and VK4RTL.”
Father’s Day? I must have missed that, must be just for VKs.

Contests: There is the FISTS Straight Key Week and the G3ZQS Memorial Straight Key Contest both of which are self explanatory. The big contest is the Worked All Europe Contest with QTCs and stuff. This is the URL for the rules

Sun: No sun spots but Earth is exiting one solar wind stream and heading for another. The old stream sparked bright Northern Lights on Sept. 3rd-6th. The new one could re-energize the display when it arrives on or about Sept. 13th.

No Stoke matches, Middlesex cricket nose dives, the weather in the UK is dismal, Hamilton gets his 1st place taken from him, Murray loses to Federer and I’m on Jury Service all week and don’t get to see a single case!! What’s to shout about?
