This stack of antennas belongs to OG6N. I don’t know that I’d like to be near that lot on a windy day

Just one report this week, from Nik, SV1EEX. He says,
“Hello dr Tony. It's been a long time since I last wrote to you. This noon I managed to take my FT-817 on my car and was glad to see that the band was open. The openings were short with mni qsb in the reception even though I pulled the car over to have a better rx. I think that the propagation mode was Es due to very short openings and lack of any sigs above 14 MHz but I will have to consult the Athens ionosonde at http://195.251.203.15/cgi-bin/latest.exe but it is not working at this time.
(it is now, but I’m not sure what it means.. Tony)

On the other hand it was quite fun to work stations with less than 2.5W at the bottom of the cycle !
73 de SV1EEX Nik”.

Thanks Nik, and you have hit the nail on the head, we sometimes do forget that this hobby is supposed to be fun!!

Contests: The 50 th Scandinavian Activity Contest 2008 from 12:00 Saturday to 12:00 Sunday. There are also several “sprints/QSO parties” and the CQ WW RTTY contest.

Sun: A new sunspot (1002) is emerging in the sun's northern hemisphere.

After several months of almost-relentlessly blank suns, "this is like
a breath of fresh plasma," says photographer Pete Lawrence who sends this picture from Selsey, UK:

The magnetic polarity of the emerging spot identifies it as a member of new Sunspot Cycle 24. This new sunspot is an encouraging sign that the 11-year solar cycle is indeed progressing, but rather slowly. (SpaceWeather.com)

Well, we held Liverpool to a draw at Liverpool, so that’s a valuable point. Chelsea at Stoke this weekend. Another point (or 3) would be useful. We somehow conspired to beat Reading in the Carling (ex League) Cup. Both sides fielded second string teams and both could do with being out of it and concentrating on their league positions. Still, it’s the first time we’ve got this far in yonks.
