29/10/2009: Yoshi, JE2EHP, will be active as 4X/K1HP from Tel Aviv and
Jerusalem in Israel between 29 October and 5 November. Activity will be
on all the HF bands and 6m, using CW, SSB and RTTY. QSL via home call,

29/10/2009: Fernando, EA4BB is active from Harare, Zimbabwe, as Z21BB
on 10, 15 and 20 metres. He is planning to setup antennas on 40, 80m and

29/10/2009: Hamilton PY6HD, Beto PY6RT and Nilzo PY6AWU will activate
the Abrolhos lighthouse (DFB BA-014, ARLHS ARLHS BRA-001, TWLHD WLH
PY-001) on the Santa Barbara Island (DIB BA-01, WLOTA 0463), in the
Abrolhos Archipelago (IOTA SA-019) as ZZ6Z. This activation also applies
to the LABRE diplomas: WAA, WAB, WAO and DBDX (the latter only for
contacts in 40 or 80 meters). Scheduled dates are from 29 October to 2
November, but this may vary due to Brazilian Navy schedules. QRV 80-10m,

30/10/2009: From 30 October to 2 November Jean-Claude F5IL, Juan F5IRC,
Luis F5THW, Christophe F5UBH will sign TM5SN from Sein Island (EU-O68,
DIFM AT-007) and lighthouse (DPLF PB-106, ARLHS FRA-066, WLH F-027,
WLOTA 2721). They also plan to activate the Sein Mill (DMF reference
29-015) located in the commune Ile de Sein (CP 29990), Department

30/10/2009: Tomas, VK2CCC will be active, part time, from Vanuatu
(OC-035) between 30 October and 5 November using the callsign YJ0CCC.

from Lethem, Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo (region), Guyana (Grid GJ03),

31/10/2009: François/F5JNE and Claude/F5MCC will be active as
homecall/p on 31st October from the Coutarnoux Castle (DFCF 89-309),
located in the city of Coutarnoux (CP 89440), canton [county] of Isle
sur Serein (DDCF 89-17), Department Yonne/89 and Province Burgundy (DPF

31/10/2009: Rene, DL2JRM will be active from Iceland (EU-021, WLOTA
2975) as TF/DL2JRM/p from 31 October to 2 November. QRV 160m-10m CW,

31/10/2009: Operators Marco/CE6TBN, Leszek/NI1L, Art/PA3C, Zbig/SP7HOV,
Stan/SQ8X and Victoria/SV2KBS will be active as XR0Y from the outskirts
of Hanga Roa (Grid DG52gu), Rapa Nui [aka Easter island] (SA-001, DICE
ICE-001 for the Islands of Chile Award) between 31 October and 15
November. Plans are to focus on 160, 80, 40 and above all 30 meters (CW
only, as digital modes on 30m are not allowed). Working Europe on 30
meters will be their priority during the first week on the island. They
will have three stations with two amplifiers and several antennas.
Although SSB will not be neglected, CW will be the main operating mode,
with some RTTY being planned as well. QSL routes: Europe, Asia, Africa
and Oceania - direct/bureau via SQ8X; North, Central and South America -

01/11/2009: Harald, DL7VSN, is back in Tanzania again and plans to
become QRV after his Kilimanjaro trip around 1st November. He will work
on 160m-10m mainly in CW and RTTY running 100 watts with several
dipoles. His callsign should be 5H1HS again. He may also activate
another island group for one or two days if everything works fine with
his transportation. Harald hopes to become active also from the
Serengeti and Tarangire national parks where he will go on the 18th

01/11/2009: Operators Rudi/DF8AE, Burkhard/DF8XC, Georg/DK5QN,
Dirk/DL1YDI and Pete/DL1YAW will be active as 5P3WW from Mon Island
(EU-029, DIA SJ-017, WLOTA L-4630, WW Loc. JO64EX), 1-9 November,
including an entry in the Marconic Contest with new portable antenna

01/11/2009: Chris, DO7AG flies to the South Pacific with his family
between November, 2009 and January 2010. He expects to be active as
5W1QX and A31CE on 40m and 20m only - those are the bands which he can
use with his type of license class. Activation dates to be determined.
Chris notes he realises another activition of A3 & 5W at the same time
as his trip and hopes to meet Claudia and Andrea! The 5W1QX QTH will be
Aleipata district, Upolu island (OC-097, WLOTA L1944, WW Loc. AH36SG),
Samoa; the A31CE QTH will be Nuku'alofa, Tongatapu, Tonga (OC-049, WW

01/11/2009: Chris, ZS6RI is working in Liberia for about six weeks
starting by the end of October or beginning of November. He will work
mostly in CW but also in SSB and digital modes using his QRP

01/11/2009: Joao, CT2GQA will be in Guinea-Bissau for the next five
years. He has two callsigns: J5GQZ to be used on 20m/17m and J5JUA for

01/11/2009: Look for Orlando, PY2TJ to be active from Isla Tierra Del
Fuego (IOTA SA-008, WLOTA L2448 [New!]) as LU/PY2TJ from 01-07 November,

02/11/2009: Mark, KG8DP will once again activate Grassy Key (NA-062,
USi FL068S, Monroe county), Florida, from 2-9 November. Operations will
be stationary at Grassy Key and mobile as he travels to Key West and all
points on the ocean. He will use the callsign KG8DP, as well as his club
callsign NA8KD. This will be a week trip. QSL both KG8DP/NA8KD via info

02/11/2009: Mac, TZ6JA will be back to Mali and hopes to operate SSB
only during his early morning and late evening hours between 2 and 23
November. He will have two transceivers, a small amplifier, a 2-element

03/11/2009: Tom/DL2RUM (VP2MUM), Rudi/DM2XO (VP2MXO), and Jan/DJ8NK

1475) from 3-15 November. Activity will be on 160-10m using CW, SSB and

04/11/2009: Dave N3XF, Ed K1ZE and Bob W1EQ will be signing
KP2/homecall from the Windwood Estates, island of St. Croix (USi VI002S,

04/11/2009: Paul, W4/VP9KF will be active from Baileys Bay, Hamilton
Parish, Bermuda (NA-005) as VP9KF from 4 to 18 November, 2009. QRV all

04/11/2009: Manfred/DK1BT, Wolf/DL4WK, Andy/DL5CW, Sigi/DL7DF and
Frank/DL7UFR plan to be active 4-17 November from Phu Quoc island
(AS-128), Gulf of Thailand, Vietnam, using the callsign XV4D. They will
be active with several stations on 160m through 10m on CW, SSB. One
station will be exclusively dedicated to RTTY, PSK31 and SSTV. Their
equipment consists of 3 transceivers (2 x K2, 1 x IC7000), 3 x kW
linears , 2 x 18 m Lowband Vertical, a 2 elem vertical for 40, a 2 elem
vertical for 30, 2 Spiderbeam for 20/17/15/12/10, some Beverage antennas
as well as some laptop computers. Pilot for this DXpedition is Bernd,

06/11/2009: Steve/9M6DXX and John/9M6XRO will operate from Pulau Labuan
(IOTA OC-133, WLOTA L 0456) from 6-8 November (and possibly for one or
two hours from 0000 UTC on 9 November) as follows: 9M6DXX/P 10m - 80m on
SSB only; 9M6XRO/P 10m - 160m on CW and RTTY. Stations will be using
linear amplifiers to a multi-band vertical and a 160m inverted-L, both
mounted very close to the ocean. They hope it will be possible to
operate on 160m CW at the same time as SSB on the other bands. QSL both
9M6DXX/P and 9M6XRO/P via M0URX, either direct, via the bureau or LoTW.

06/11/2009: Kazik HB0/DL2SBY, Tomi HB0/HA4DX and Laci HB0/HA0HW will be
active 6-13 November from Masessa, Liechtenstein. Their main focus to do
as many QSOs as possible on 160, 80 and 40 metre bands. They We have 3
radios 2 with amplifiers. On 160 they will use an 18m Spiderpole
inverted L, on 80 inverted Vee and loaded Gp, and on 40m a Gp on another
Spiderple (12m). For the upper bands they have a Spider beam top on the
11m mast. QRV mainly using CW but some SSB is also expected. QSL via

06/11/2009: Members of the Grupo DX Caracas will be active from
Farallon Centinela Island (SA-058, DIV-059, WLOTA L0012, Grid FK60) from
6-9th November, 2009 using the callsign YW5F. They will be active on

06/11/2009: Ben, OZ5AAH will again participate in the International
Police Association Contest (6-7 November) from Tallinn, Estonia. QRV SSB

10/11/2009: Dave N1EMC (T30KI) and Mike N1IW (T30IW) will be active

14/11/2009: Members of the Uruguay DX Group will be active from Port
Stanley, East Falkland Island (SA-002, WLOTA L1479) from 14-21 November.
They will use the callsign VP8BUH mainly on the low bands and WARC SSB.
They will also use the callsign VP8BUG on the digital modes. Operators
include Gus/CX2AM, Gus/CX3CE, Bert/CX3AN, Mario/CX4CR and Luis/CX4AAJ.

19/11/2009: Fred PY2XB and Alex PY2WAS will activate Cabras Island
(SA-071, DIB SP-06) between 19-23 November. They will use PW2IO (PY2XB)
and PW2TA (PY2WAS) calls. They will operate two separate stations
running 300W and 100W respectively. The antennas will be a yagi for 15,
17 and 20m and a multiband ZEP. The team guarantees that at least one
station will be on the air around the clock. Both stations will work CW
and SSB. The main bands to be used are 15, 17, 20, 30 and 40 metres, on
IOTA frequencies. Alternative frequencies may be used if necessary. The
team will need to take life support to the island, including generator
and batteries for energy. The landing on the island is difficult and the
operation may be postponed in case of bad sea. News will be forwarded

25/11/2009: Niko, S53A will be active from Hippo Lodge, Kafue National
Park (WFFA reference 9JFF-003), Zambia, as 9J3A from 25-30 November,
including an entry in the CQWW DX CW Contest (28-29 November). QRV using
low power on all bands. Antennas include 80m vertical, 40m 2el wire

25/11/2009: T88CI (HA5AO), Pista will be back once again to the Island
of Koror (OC-009), Republic of Palau. He will be active between 25
November and 10 December 2009. During this holiday style operation he
will be working on the HF bands, throughout 80-10 meters, might be also
on 160 m, mainly on CW, however SSB and RRTY activity is also possible.
He will also attend to the CQ WW CW contest, in the single operator, all

01/11/2009: Mick, G3LIK reports he will be active as GB4RN (GB4 Royal

on 1-28 November, which will include the RNARS CW Activity Contest

01/11/2009: Second Arecibo Observatory activation - KP4AO. After the
huge success of the first activation, the Arecibo Observatory Radio
Club - KP4AO will be on-the-air again 01 November 2009 to commemorate 46
years of operations of still the single largest radio telescope antenna
in the world. They will also commemorate the 35th anniversary of the
Arecibo Message, which was sent on November 16, 1974, in binary code and
transmitted to the globular star cluster M13, for if it is received by
intelligent life, to let them know about our existence. "We had a such a
great response that we had more than 100 radio hams operating the
station in the Control Room taking turns", said Angel Vazquez - WP3R who
works in the Observatory. The special event will take place from
1300-2000 UTC and will be on 20 metre SSB. There will be certificates

04/11/2009: The Havre Radio Club (F8KHN will air the special callsign
TM1TJV, between 4-8 November, for the departure of the Transatlantic
sailing ships race between Le Havre and Costa-Rica. All HF bands, and

06/11/2009: The callsign GB0AD is to commemorate Armistice Day on
November 11th 2009. Aberdare & District ARS will be on air from
Aberdare, Wales (IOTA EU-005, WLOTA LH 0453), with the callsign on the
following dates in November: Friday 6th, Saturday 7th, Sunday 8th
(Remembrance Sunday) and Thursday November 11th on most bands bands

DJ Bradford "Derek", G3LCK became silent key on 21st October. Derek died
while building a 2M beam antenna and had been planning to improve his
VHF set-up to help activate CW on 2M.
Former Hudson Division Director Paul Vydareny, WB2VUK, SK -
Paul Vydareny, WB2VUK, of Tarrytown, New York, passed away Thursday,
October 22, from a brain aneurysm. He was 65.

Listen for W1ACB/US on 14.045MHz and 7.045MHz operating CW. It is a
permanent station for the US Army Signal Corps and the British Royal
Naval Signals of WWII.
Go to QRZ.com to view their WWII tower. They also
operate on other bands from Top Band to 10m and can usually be heard on
frequencies ending in 45. [GB2RS]
