FCC Spectrum Allocation experts to visit New Zealand

Experts from the US Federal Communications Commision (FCC) will be visiting New Zealand to present a seminar on spectrum allocation methods and auctions

William Sharkey and Mark Bykowsky from the FCC will present a seminar on 'Current Research in Spectrum Allocation and Related Issues'.

It will be held at the Ministry of Economic Development (MED) at 33 Bowen Street in Wellington on November 16 and is expected to run from 9.00am – 12.00pm, with a light lunch being provided at 12.00pm.

Intending participants should register their attendance by sending an email to radiospectrum@med.govt.nz by November 11, 2009.

Among the topics are

- Overview of spectrum assignment and allocation issues - both licensed and unlicensed use

- Introduction to auction tools - types of auctions and their Pros/Cons

- International survey of spectrum auctions and trends

The seminar is sponsored by the Ministry of Economic Development and the PING Research Group at Auckland University.
